Air Jordan 2 "Chicago" - All You Need to Know

Before 2022 comes to a close, Jordan Brand is ending the year with a bang with the release of the Air Jordan 2 “Chicago”. Despite the Jordan 2 not being one of the most popular models, the release of a classic colorway will always appeal to sneakerheads. The last time sneakerheads got a taste of this sneaker was in 2016 when Jordan released a low-top version of the shoe. Although, the new high-top version releasing this year will be a more interesting attraction due to the sneaker maintaining its original look and integrity.

The Air Jordan 2 was originally released 36 years ago, in 1986. At the time, the sneaker was the first ever athletic sneaker manufactured with high-end premium materials. The original run of Jordan 2’s were manufactured in Italy, using luxurious Italian leather. The idea at the time was to create the first ever luxury basketball shoe. Later on, the initial production process was no longer feasible if Jordan were to pursue mass production for the sneaker.

The reasoning behind the Jordan 2 not receiving the same appreciation and popularity of other silhouettes was due to Michael Jordan’s injury at the time. Jordan missed 64 consecutive games in the 1985-1986 season due to a broken foot. Therefore, Jordan did not have much gametime in the Jordan 2. By the time the superstar returned from injury, Nike were already preparing for the release of the Jordan 3.

The sneaker features a predominantly white colorway, with red and black details. As clearly indicated by the name of the colorway, the colors of the shoe pay tribute to Michael Jordan’s team, the Chicago Bulls.

The sneaker is expected to drop towards the very end of the year, on December 30th of 2022.
